Nā́sadiya Sūkta (RV 10.129)
compared with The IIP-VGF framework
The Nā́sadiya Sūkta (RV 10.129) is almost a poetic, phenomenological correlate of what in the IIP-VGF framework is the IIP (the infinite iteration principle) before closure, before decoherence, before any stable partition into “this” and “that.” Or alternatively we could say that this part of the IIP-VGF framework is the modern correlate in terms of discriminatory mathematics, of what is described in the Nā́sadiya Sūkta.
Among all Rig Vedic hymns, it is the one that most clearly resonates with what in the IIP-VGF framework is the pre-closure, pre-differentiated IIP state — in Vedic terms this is where generativity is present, but stabilised worlds have not yet come into being.

1. nā́sad āsīn no sád āsīt tadānīṃ: “There was neither non-being nor being then…”
In discriminatory or scientific cosmological terms: There was neither non-existence nor existence then.
IIP–VGF Parallel:
In the pre-closure generative domain of the VGF:
• No stabilised objects or structures yet exist
• There is no redundancy yet → and hence no persistent identity of any object
• But also not “nothing” — rather, generative (and iterative) potential not yet discriminated
The Veda speaks of the domain of Being and consciousness. The IIP-VGF formal framework is discriminative, mathematical, scientific - it is an expression in another register.
It is not a "theory of consciousness" or an attempt to reduce consciousness and Being to scientific express expression. However, the correlation is there, just as there is a correlation between biological brain function and human consciousness:
In the IIP-VGF framework, before closure, the IIP has iteration without already-formed attractors.
• No system / environment split
• No time in the stabilised sense
• No observer / observed distinction
This is the VGF-before-stabilisation — what we might call:
Undifferentiated iteration without fixed-point closure.
Similarly, the hymn refuses to choose between being and non-being, just as in the IIP-VGF framework "matter" v "intelligence" are post-closure categories that do not yet apply.
2. “There was no sky, no beyond… no breath, no air…”
The parallel in scientific terms is: no sky, no space, no air, no directions
IIP–VGF Parallel:
Space, direction, environment and domain are all products of closure.
They only emerge when:
• iteration stabilises,
• redundancy produces persistence,
• and partitioning produces relational structure.
Before that there is:
• no topology
• no geometry
• no privileged frame of differentiation
This is the pre-geometric VGF, the same level at which:
• system–environment split has not yet decohered
• attractors have not differentiated
• Hilbert-space partitions do not exist.
Both the hymn and IIP-VGF framework express in their different ways that:
Generativity exists — but not yet as cosmos.
3. táma āsīt támasā gūḷhám: “There was darkness hidden by darkness…”
IIP–VGF Parallel:
This expresses the opacity of undifferentiated potential:
• Not ignorance, but absence of redundancy
• Nothing stands out → no contrast → no information
• There is energy / potency, but no separable patterns
In IIP–VGF terms:
Before decoherence, nothing yet persists or stabilises as an object-like closure.
This is analogous to:
• a maximally entangled proto-state
• coherence without stabilised projection
• everything everywhere → but not yet articulable or individuated
"Darkness hiding darkness" is the Vedic equivalent of what in the IIP-VGF framework is coherence without pattern-selection.
4. ánid avātáṃ svadháyā tád ékaṃ: “That One breathed without breath…”
IIP–VGF Parallel
This is the closest poetic analogue to the IIP (infinite iteration principle) as self-generating principle:
• “Breathing without breath” = self-iteration without external cause
• Not a manifest thing (or being in the case of the Vedic register) — but a process
• “By its own power” → self-referential recursion. This is nature of the IIP as the root mathematical principle in the IIP-VGF framework.
This is not yet the VGF — but the proto-generative drive from which VGF later stabilises.
We might say:
The One referred to in the sacred register, has its correlate in the mathematical / scientific register of the IIP-VGF framework, as the the self-recurring iteration principle, the IIP-VGF prior to closure.
The raw mathematical infinite iteration principle, or IIP, is:
• logically prior to form
• not spatial, temporal, or causal
• but the possibility of iteration itself
The hymn expresses in experiential language or the sacred register, what the mathematical principle of the IIP correlates to, although it is necessarily expressed in the mathematical / scientific register.
5. ká̄mas tád ágre sám avartata dhī́ḥ: “Desire arose as the first seed of mind…”
Here, the hymn, speaking in its sacred register, describes the first seed of manas - the mind. This is, as it were from the "position" or "point of view" of consciousness.
In the IIP-VGF framework, which is in the discriminatory, mathematical and scientific position and register, mind as human beings know it is scientifically understood as a construct of brain function. However, it is not something that in the scientific picture of evolution can be traced back in its evolution only to some late point in scientific cosmology - such as the appearance of the species. Rather, the entire scientific picture including mathematical structures, together with everything that science can measure and all experience that can be the construct of brain function, emerge from the VGF from the same common, generative root - the raw, abstract, mathematical, infinite iteration principle.
IIP–VGF Parallel
In the IIP-VGF framework the first asymmetry, the first directional bias is:
• a pre-closure proto-perturbation
• the beginning of selection
• first move toward attractor-formation
In VGF terms:
• Iteration acquires tendency
• Tendency accumulates redundancy
• Redundancy produces proto-closure
This equivalent of “desire” in the mathematical / scientific register of the IIP-VGF framework is not psychological or a matter of consciousness of being. Rather, it is:
The first differentiation pressure that will eventually yield structure.
It is the birth of direction, which later becomes:
• time-as-stabilised sequence
• evolution
• decoherence gradients
• even cognition.
It is the same moment when:
“Iteration without closure” tips toward “iteration leading to closure.”
6. yo asyādhyakṣaḥ parame vyoman: “Who knows? Perhaps even the Highest does not know…”
IIP–VGF Parallel
In the IIP-VGF framework this becomes the insight:
• When there is no closure,
• there is no perspective from which knowledge or evolutionary intelligence could exist.
Knowledge or evolutionary intelligence is only possible after stabilisation, when:
• agents emerge,
• records persist,
• distinctions can be tracked.
Before closure:
There cannot be any “knower” or “known” — there is only generativity.
• knowing itself is a late emergent property of stabilised cognition
• not a primitive feature of the pre-cosmic field
In the IIP-VGF framework, objectivity, order, subjectivity, time, and causality, are not fundamental metaphysical givens, but stabilised consequences of generative iteration.

The hymn describes in symbolic language and the sacred register, what the IIP-VGF describes in discriminatory language in the mathematical and scientific register, as the phase before the VGF first closes upon itself as "world".
The hymn's description is the metaphysical analogue of what in the IIP-VGF framework is:
• pre-objectivity
• pre-geometry
• pre-ontology
Yet already pregnant with recursion.
The IIP-VGF framework cannot cross into the register of the sacred, but its morphology happens nonetheless to be an "image" of Hindu cosmological morphology.
