In the evolution of the species what evolves is what survives. In the IIP-VGF framework this applies to the universe, too. Everything that evolves as the universe is what survives.

In order for anything to survive it must persist in time. That persistence is a form of stabilisation. And in order for it to persist as a stabilisation in time, there first has to be time. In the IIP-VGF framework, time itself, as part of spacetime, is what enables further persistence and stabilisation, and exists because it, itself, is a product of survival. Behind it all, is the principle of iteration. What survives is what survives the principle of iteration.
